WAWT 101108 by Audrey Lumiere

We had a busy day today, off to visit the surgeon about my ears, doing the grocery shopping and other miscellaneous errands. Faced with such mundane tasks, I needed to introduce a bit of whimsy into my day.

I settled on my tutu-style skirt, favourite men's tee (mine actually has a deer on it), leggings and my favourite chunky heels. Unfortunately I forgot to accessorise today, which is very unlike me. I ringed my eyes with a gorgeous purple liner that matches the purple in my hair perfectly, as the colour has faded a bit. I need to redo it, but I'm waiting to hear about a job I have applied for, if I have an interview I'll need to get rid of the purple (very corporate role, and very much in the public view, very unlike my last few!).

The day started off well with the visit to the surgeon. Happily my condition has stablised, and my hearing is not any worse, so no need for surgery, and I've evaded the dreaded hearing aid once more. Foiled yet again - mwwaaahhhh haaahh haaah (that was evil laughter in case you were wondering :) ).

I love doing the grocery shopping in a pair of heels, pushing the trolley around, with The Small Boy hanging off the front. Found lots of extra low sodium foods today, so it was a very good shop! Plus a lady complimented The Small Boy's lovely manners as well, it was true, he was very well behaved (until we got home). He is obsessed with Boost Smoothies, so I had bribed him with one of those, maybe that helped.

Then later we went off to sit in the sunshine on the oval watching The Man play cricket. Corporate cricket competition kicked off again today, because of daylight savings.

Tomorrow I am back to work, working extra days for the next few weeks as it is getting to the end of the school year and we have deadlines to meet. Hope I make it!! Fingers crossed.

Necklace I am coveting, from Tilly Bloom
Books and reading are some of my favourite things.

I could read all day if possible. Pre-TSB, I used to do that. Whole days spent laying indulgently in bed, reading voraciously. Devouring word after word.

These days, I still manage to find time to read. Sometimes this is online, where I'll spend vast and unspecified (because I may incriminate myself) amounts of time perusing blogs and forums, just reading, not often commenting or replying. Not totally sure why, as I am very opinionated in real life, but I think it is because the time I spend typing responses could be better spent reading something new.

But I do find time each day to read the printed word too. Nothing compares to bound pages of magical letters creating words and worlds. The pleasure I derive from holding a book is immense. I don't understand people who say they don't have time to read. I shake my head at them, and furrow my brow, wrinkle my nose whilst thinking that housework can't be more important than reading.

I'll read trash. I'll read literature. I'll read textbooks for fun, and brochures, and street signs. I'll read a story that affects me profoundly, and follow it up with a fashion magazine.

I'm the first to admit I'm a Word Whore. And I'm cool with that.

The most obvious sign of my commitment to words is The Small Boy. He reads. Constantly. Ok, so he can't actually read, but he is often found sitting with a book, doing his own version of reading. Story books, picture books, magazines, novels, he's not fussy either.

Children learn by example, and this is an example I am so proud my son is learning from me.

I remember times spent in other worlds, through the medium of books, growing up and I can only hope for and encourage The Small Boy to experience this also.

I love this photo of The Small Boy!

It was taken at our wedding in May, and the legs in the background are some of The Man's oldest friends. They all went to High School together, and have remained friends for all that time! (Ok, The Man isn't that old...).

The Small Boy wore a vest and pants that The Man's Mum made. We purchased a suit the same as The Man and his brother (who was Best Man, and one of my most favourite people), and The Man's Mum created this outfit for The Small Boy. He also has on a tie in the same shade as one of the Bridesmaids. We had 3 Bridesmaids, and 1 Best Man - our bridal party was more about the people, than matching numbers, and the BMs all wore a different colour dress.

Anyway, the only sticky situation about The Small Boy's outfit, was my insistence he wear Converse. He has heaps of pairs, in many colours. I wanted him to be comfortable to run around, and also I loved that he looked a little different, and had an element of funk to his look for the day. None of the family agreed, they wanted little leather boots (which I have a thing about *vomit*), I argued he wasn't going to a building site, and The Man grudgingly agreed.

So The Small Boy wore brand spankin' black Converse. And EVERYONE thought he was awesome. Because he is, of course!

Anyway, I'm thinking of getting it put onto canvas as part of The Man's Fathers Day gift. He likes practical stuff, and we'll all love seeing it on the wall.

This morning the TV was on in the background when The Small Boy and I were getting ready for our respective days. A cartoon on TV had this following exchange:
Voice 1: Have you ever seen a maneating tiger?
Voice 2: Which restaurant serves tiger?
Cue hysterical laughter from me. I love jokes like this!
The Small Boy then astounded me by saying "i'm a man eating weetbix mummy" and growling like a tiger! Bless! What a clever boy.
Cue much hysterical giggling, and chasing around the house pretending to be boy-eating tigers. Until I was late for work.
ahhhhhhhhh.

We went to a friends place today, about an hours drive away for a birthday celebration. They have an amazing property, rural, with river frontage. I think it is one of my most favourite places in the whole world, and I've made them promise not to sell it without giving us first dibs!

Anyway, it's been raining heaps lately, so the paddocks were boggy and soggy. The Small Boy had literally hours of fun, jumping in the puddles with his gumboots on. At least he wasn't drinking the muddy puddles like his little friend was!
